Poetry Month: Writer’s Digest PAD challenge, Day 28: A matter and/or anti-matter poem

Properties of things that matter

First of all there must
Be a weight about it –
A gravitational pull upon the heart.
A mass in proportion to the soul’s
Capacity to hold,
To bend without breaking,
To deform without compromise,
We shall call it flex.
To this add a degree of elasticity –
Enough give to give but not so much
As to pull one to bits.
A measure of hardness to vary
In context and in degree, but
enough to be reformed,
To be reshaped under the
Impact of love’s thumb, a malleable
And willing spirit, porous enough
To allow a breath
To blow through, and resound.
In the end there must be
a tenacity,
To keep and be kept
Orbiting – in the gravitational pull
of another.
