Poetry Month: Writer’s Digest PAD challenge, Day 10: a How “fill-in the blank” poem

How can you be so lucky

On the tails of someone else’s sad story –
About a sick child, a lost child
A dying child.
I so often I hear,
“I am …so lucky”
“I am …so blessed”
…to not know this pain.
But I’ve seen the eyes
Of storytellers with their sad tales –
been pierced by pain enough
to know –
the blessing is in the pain too –
Richly, deeply, rightly
felt.
And this is a luck of its own.
